Cory Zicolella, Week 1 PPJ, Blog Post 1

Group Meeting/Idea Pitch - 2 hrs
Setting up the website/Trello setup- 1 hrs

This week was pretty slow as far as everything has gone so far.  It is the end of the first week of the term, and as such we had to combine two teams, and get everyone up to speed on means of communication.  We made a Trello for organizational purposes and got everyone in a single combined slack.

We had a large team group meeting where we had an overview of what needed to be done by the team itself, then split into two groups- art and coding- and from there we went over what each individual within those teams needed to do.  I was part of the art group, and we talked about what assets still needed creation or touched up for our current games, as well as stabbed in the dark for what we may need for our future games.

From there it was my idea to brainstorm a bunch of new game ideas on a whiteboard.  We must have came up with at least 30 games, which we then axed off the weakest ones, and reinforced the better ones.  These are just ideas--but if they get a working prototype, it could help us greatly in this term of development.

I also made sure everyone on the team had site access, including admin rights, and knew how to use it so they could post their PPJs!

- Pretty much all of it is positive news, no negative stuff this week.

This week involved a lot of catch-up. The tasks and meetings focused on the onboarding of the other team (myself included). My tasks specifically involved setting up more project management related structures like the trello board. We also had an group meeting to discuss ideas about new mini games.

- Onboarding has gone well
- Organization is being improved

Mock-ups, Flowchart, Organization

The two teams are integrating into one giant team relatively smoothly. It's nice to have some fresh ideas suggested for the game. 

Organization for the art side of things caused some minor confusion as to where to put files onto perforce. Hopefully new organization will be easier to understand and navigate.

As for work, last meeting we discussed the integration of a slot machine. I based my mock-ups around the idea of having a slot machine for our game selection and came up with an interface built around it. Because the slot machine was implemented, I also modified the flowchart from last term to include the slot machine.

It hasn't been a particularly active week for me, but I expect to see more action from myself next week

Negative Content
- Organization was a minor problem in beginning 
- Phone had some issues sending/receiving slack messages (the issue should be fixed now though)
- Cat has an ear infection :(

Work and hours

Flowchart (1.5 hr)

- I used the basic frame of last terms flowchart and added in the slot machine mechanic.
I expect some changes to be made in the future, but this functions as a good rough-draft of how the slot machine will function.

Slot machine mock-up screen (4 hr)

- A potential layout for the slot machine. I stuck with one row to keep things simpler, but this may change based on team feedback. I also incorporated a potential "time bar" to the right based on feedback from last term.

Organization update (1 hr

-Major changes made in art organization on perforce. One change includes splitting ArtAssets (In game art) and ConceptArt (design aids) into their own folders. 

Organization has been improved significantly, though still not complete. I plan on addressing the art team for some organization decisions.

Vincent Slifer PPJ week 01

This first week had pretty good integration of the two teams and scaling.  No visible conflicts arose and duties were split more evenly among the members' strengths.

Positive Content

  • Teams integrated into one, at this point
    • Caught everyone up on pipeline and processes for development


Negative Content

  • Sleep schedule was messed up and was not able to keep myself awake at times
  • Not as active in early stages of planning
